Review MAT/Trimester 1
Please complete the following peer-review as thoroughly as
possible. This means you would give
feedback in complete sentences and paragraphs when appropriate. Write neatly so the author can read your
comments
- Read
the essay three times to make sure you get a good understanding of what
the author is arguing and how he/she sets up the argument.
- What
is the author’s overarching or main argument (thesis)? Quote the text by writing down the
author’s thesis sentence. From
reading the paper, do you believe the author’s argument or does it sound
like he/she does not really know what they are talking about?
- In
the thesis, does the author use high modality and persuasive language?
Quote the text.
- What
are the author’s subsequent mini-arguments that support the main argument?
Directly quote the text here as well.

- Does
the author’s evidence support his/her arguments? Why? Why not? What are your suggestions?
- What
is the author’s resolution? How is
he or she pushing the reader to think, act, or talk differently? (Quote
the text)
- When
the author imports visuals, does he/she do it correctly? Does he/she ever refer to the article
in their writing or is it just added to the page. Is the visual on the
page in a place where you can easily refer to it when you are reading the text?
- In
two paragraphs, respond to the essay giving the author specific
feedback. Take out the assignment
and check to see if he/she has all of the elements included in the essay.
